Better Blog #6: Going Mobile

Action step for today — get a working mobile friendly theme back onto my blog.

With the plugins available for WordPress this is just a matter of choosing one and installing it.

I’m going with WPTouch and made a video of the process so you can see the steps I followed to install and setup the plugin.

Here’s a post I shared last September with more choices for going mobile (including some options for non-WordPress websites):

Thanks Michelle for the video. This is a great topic and one that all online business owners should pay attention to. As more and more smart phones become an additional body part, we should make sure our visitors can view our sites by installing the best plugins and tools to work with their phones.

    Great job!
    Terri :)

Thanks, Terri. The number of people accessing internet from mobiles is growing so fast!

Michelle, you are rocking with these informative posts. I’m looking at the blog on my iPhone now. I don’t see the video though. Is there a special setting for that.

Also, what plugin would you recommend for bloggers who want to administer their site from the phone.

That’s one thing I need to start doing is adding the direct YouTube links anytime I embed a video so that people on iPod/iPhone can click to view the videos. Sorry I forgot to include that.

There’s an official WordPress app that works for posting/editing/moderating comments. http://ios.wordpress.org/

Oh, this looks so much better than what I have (WP Mobile Detector). I think I’ll try this one.

Thanks Michelle – I had no idea about mobile displaying info differently. Plugins are so easy, I have just got a wordpress site and its awesome.
With your info I can certainly improve it :)

Thank you, Michelle. I never even realised that there are plugins to make my blog mobile friendly. I will definitely install this plugin and then use my Blackberry to see how it displays. My children are always telling me I don’t use the BB as it should be used…
