Do you spend a bit too much time on Twitter (no, not me!)? Facebook? Reading the news? If you find it challenging to stay focused when you’re online, try this Firefox add-on to help remind you which sites you shouldn’t be at:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4476
It allows you to block access to sites you list during certain hours, or to limit your time on the sites to a certain amount of minutes per hour.
Personally I’m using it to limit my time on Twitter/Facebook, as well as certain news websites I tend to spend more time reading than I’d like to. Instead, I’ll have an hourly limit for social networking, and certain time windows for the news.
I’m re-reading the new edition of The 4-Hour Work Week, which had a link to this. So far I like the extra reinforcement to help me stay focused on work during work time.
If you try it out, hit comment and let me know what you think. Or, got other focus tips for working online?
