Amethyst Mahoney says
Thanks for giving us the “Real Time.” I was wondering how long it actually took you to do all of that! :-)
Michelle Shaeffer says
Yes, in 5 minutes I can get all sorts of stuff done. ;) If only real life had the same speed adjustments as Camtasia video does…. LOL
Gypsy says
Michelle, thank you so much for sharing this. It really helps seeing how others do things like promoting, creating and networking :) Its also inspiring and a good butt-kicking reminder as well! As always…you rock!
Michelle Shaeffer says
*pow* Consider your bottom kicked. :)
I find it helpful, too, to see things like this in action.
Gina Macaluso says
My goodness, you amaze me all the time! I absolutely LOVE this! Incredible tips. I picked up a bunch of ideas for promoting that I hadn’t been doing. I think my favorite that was like a ‘duh moment’ was to visit commentator’s blogs and comment back!
Thank you so much!
gina~
Michelle Shaeffer says
Great! Glad this was helpful, Gina. And yes, commenting back can be a great way to get your readers to come back to your blog and find new readers, too. :)
MelanieKissell says
Bravissimo!!
(Can you hear the thunderous roar of applause in the background?) :)
Very unique video, Michelle — love it! One thing I need to do a lot more of is “bookmarking”. I’m really falling short there. And I’m happy to know you’re a fan of Blokube. I don’t see many people talking about it.
Thank you!
Michelle Shaeffer says
LOL I suppose I’ll *curtsy* then.
Yes, I need to be more consistent about using Delicious, I’m pretty good with StumbleUpon since I installed the toolbar.
As far as blogger networks I’m on BizSugar, Blokube, and a couple others (but it’d made the video super long if I’d shown more so I just picked one to go with). I do like Blokube. :)
Suzie Cheel says
Michelle this is brilliant, I am going to rewatch with an excel spreadsheet so I can do this for every post and maybe some old ones. Did i get this correctly- you post to your fan page twice?
I love that font- would you share the name.?
hugs
Suzie
Michelle Shaeffer says
Yes I do. I post once when it goes live and then 2 or 3 days later I’ll post again at a different time of day and with a different headline and/or image.
The font is freeze and you can find it here: http://www.kevinandamanda.com/fonts/freescrapbookfonts/freeze/
Michell says
As ALWAYS Michelle, you give invaluable information! Thanks so much for sharing with us! Have a blessed evening :-)
Michelle Shaeffer says
You’re welcome, Michell, and have a wonderful evening, too!
Michelle S. Hawkins says
Great video. On the technical side how and what did you use to record the video?
Michelle Shaeffer says
Hi Michelle, I used Camtasia. :)
Adalia John says
As always, rich, rich content. I consistently promote my blog post across Social Media. I’ve seen my views on StumbleUpon go from barely 2 to 60+ views – for ME that’s a big improvement. I have never used BizSugar or Blokube. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. Continued success!
Michelle Shaeffer says
That’s awesome, Adalia! Up is a good direction for the numbers to go. :) Definitely check those out – also BlogEngage, BlogInteract, etc. There are lots of similar sites and if you can find one with your audience it’s worth it to be active there.
Alyssa says
Can you tell us all the places you posted?
Michelle Shaeffer says
In the video? I didn’t keep notes but there are little stickies as you watch it shows them. :) I go much more into detail about it when I present at Overnight Authority and the replay is this weekend (free) at http://overnightauthority.com – it includes a handout with some suggestions for creating a promotional plan, too. :)
Alyssa says
I have signed up for OA when do you speak?
Michelle Shaeffer says
Hey Alyssa, sorry I didn’t catch this reply quicker, but I know you tuned in, so thanks for watching! :)
Barbara Charles says
Nice. I’ll be there on the 13th. Hope to learn some new things! Looking forward to it!
Regards,
Barbara
Michelle Shaeffer says
Awesome, look forward to chatting with you, Barbara. :)
Sarah says
GREAT video, Michelle ! Learned about a few new places ! I just finished recording a quick audio tip about E-mail signatures being a marketing opportunity, and Wisestamp.com has this nice feature where it pulls in your latest blog post automatically and displays it on your e-mail signature ;-) But I’m sure you’re already doing that ! Cheers, Sarah
Michelle Shaeffer says
That’s a fantastic tip, Sarah. Email signatures are a great place to include blog posts and promotions, especially for those of us who send out what feels like hundreds of emails a day. LOL
Paul Bola says
promoting a blog is really challenging but this post really can help
Michelle Shaeffer says
Glad this post was helpful, Paul. Once you’ve got your system figured out then you’ve just got to be consistent with it and keep growing your connection channels. :)
Larry says
Amazing video! Its really very useful for everyone and I would like to share this video to facebook and twitter also. Thanks for sharing with us.
Michelle Shaeffer says
Hey Larry, thanks for commenting and feel free to share the video/post.
Debra Jason says
Question for you Ms. Speed Demon – while the video was 5+ minutes & you said the process really took about 30 minutes, do you do it all yourself or does a VA do your posting for you?
I find it takes me more than 30 minutes alone just to review other people’s posts & comment on them. Are you a speed reader too (LOL)?
There are certainly some resources here that I haven’t checked into. Thanks again for the juicy tips.
~Debra
Michelle Shaeffer says
In this video, I think I only read/posted on two blog posts and they weren’t very long. I do read pretty quickly, though I’ve recently been looking into speed reading courses and that’s one of the reasons (realizing how much more I could get done as far as blogging if I could read posts faster).
Most of the time I do this myself… I should hand it off to a VA, but I actually enjoy the process and interacting on social media especially.
Once you’ve got a checklist of your steps you want for each post, it’s definitely something you could hand off to a VA to take care of each time you publish a new post. :)
Debra Jason says
I agree with you about preferring to comment and reply to posts on my own. However, posting the tweets, etc. may be a good job for a V.A. Of course, first one has to have a V.A. they work with. LOL!
~Debra
Michelle Shaeffer says
LOL Yes having the VA is a critical part of outsourcing to the VA. ;)
Linda Ursin says
I’m happy to see I’m doing most things right :) I do however have to start scheduling a few more posts for the same blog post, and add it to stumbleupon and delicious.
Thanks for the other tips as well.
Do you share your posts on Google+ at all?
I share mine one my page and profile. I’ve been getting a few +1’s and shares on them, but that’s about it.
I don’t get much more than that anywhere else either :D
I’m in the process of changing focus for my business, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens from now on.
Michelle Shaeffer says
I do some. I should be more active on G+ and until I am I probably won’t share every post, just because I’m not participating enough there.
Definitely one big thing that I do that’s not in the video is to consistently work to grow my following on each of the main networks I’m active on.
Heather Cottrell says
Wow. Of all the cool stuff you shared what struck me the most was the very end when you told us it took you only 30 minutes!! As I was watching I was thinking “I guess she dedicates half a day or more to promoting each blog post after she writes it.”
What I learned: I take way too long to do things because I am way too big a perfectionist!! I read and re-read (and re-read!) everything.
Thanks for that valuable insight :)
Heather
Michelle Shaeffer says
LOL I’d never get it done if it took that long. I do a LOT of copy and paste. I’m thinking maybe I need to do a couple hour webinar and help people get setup and get their systems figured out for promo because it can be done well, and quickly, with a bit of planning and practice. ;)
Debra Jason says
Great idea. And, knowing you, you’ll have that webinar up & ready to roll before we know it.
In the quick little video you did, it seemed like you were cutting & pasting. Practice, practice, practice.
Thanks.
~Debra
Michelle Shaeffer says
Yep! LOTS of copy and paste is key to being able to do it quickly. That’s why I leave multiple windows open in the video.
Delia Bourne says
Michelle you never fail to fire me up and inspire me – thanks so much!
Michelle Shaeffer says
Hey Delia, thanks – appreciate you commenting. :)
Delia says
Gosh Michelle, I got dizzy just looking at you doing all these things! Jokes aside, really interesting and I’ve learned about a few new places where you can share your blog today.
Do you find some social media channels are better than other? I am mostly active on Facebook and Twitter and this is a full plate for me so not sure if I’d add anything else to the mix. What is your experience? Thank you!
Michelle Shaeffer says
For me, Twitter and Facebook are great. I am also on LinkedIn and G+ and do a bit both places but I know especially LinkedIn I could get more traffic from with more focus on it. It just depends on where your audience is though. :)
Malla Haridat says
Hi Michelle,
This video was great! I’m a fan of Social Buzz club and was delighted to watch your video to pick up a few tips…and see that you RTed my blog post on your video!! Thx for the share.
Question with Triberr – how did you find your first tribe? I’ve joined the site but can’t figure out how to join other tribes. Did you start your own first or did you join an existing one?
Michelle Shaeffer says
Hey Malla, SocialBuzzClub rocks – love that site. :) And thanks for making a “cameo” in my video! ;)
I joined an existing one first. You can find ones that are a good fit if you search by keyword, that’s where I start, then just send a request. :)
Jenifer says
Hello Michelle,
Perfect timing. I am about to promote my blog posts, and thanks I found this
you tube video. Thanks for sharing.
Michelle Shaeffer says
You’re welcome, Jenifer. Thanks for watching.
sara says
Brilliant tips! I definitely need to focus more attention on writing more and sharing more, and I hadn’t heard of a number of the syndication sites, so I will be doing a bit of surfing tonight. Cheers,
Michelle Shaeffer says
Awesome, have fun exploring, Sara.
Stephanie Graham says
This was awesome! You are a beast!! Does your ebook list some of the sites you use to post or do you have a list of them. I guess I can just rewatch your video to see all the places. Sheesh there are so many sites.
thanks again
Stephanie
Michelle Shaeffer says
Hi Stephanie, I’ve shared it a couple of times on webinars and will probably do another one soon but I think the highlights would be… email, social networks (twitter, facebook, etc), blogger sharing sites (blokube, etc), sharing networks (socialbuzzclub, etc)… :)
Dourgi says
Hello Michelle,
That video is quite fast but I am really impressed by your step by step guide.
I guess I really need to take sometime to watch this nice video advice.
thanks!
Michelle Shaeffer says
Yes, it’d be pretty long at regular speed. ;) But hopefully the little notes inserted throughout are helpful as far as knowing what I was doing at each step. :)
Suzanne says
I am dizzy after watching the video. Michelle, you make very nice videos. They are always really well done and nicely edited. I am guessing that Camtasia is well worth the price.
Michelle Shaeffer says
Thanks, Suzanne. I’m just brushing the surface of what Camtasia can do, but it’s fun to play with. ;)
Mike says
Hi Michelle,
Enjoyed your video. Do you do this sort of thing for clients? I’m a marketing consultant and do the same things for clients. Wondering what you’ve found works the best, as my time is limited. For example, if you had to choose 2 or 3 of your top producers, what would they be?
Thanks!
Mike
Michelle Shaeffer says
Hi Mike,
I only work for a handful of clients and it depends on their particular business/audience. We always start with who we want to reach–targeted traffic over massive traffic. So the best options are different for each. I use a lot of other tools/tactics that aren’t in this video depending what our goal is.
For my own blog, it depends on the particular post, headline, and type of information I’m sharing as well as the ultimate goal for the post. When it’s more about blogging, provided I’ve got a good headline, anything reaching bloggers on Twitter works well for me (so Triberr, scheduled tweets, etc.). When it’s more of how to tutorial then it seems to spread well on Facebook so I’d go for tactics that reach that way work. But that’s just my experience so far.
I do a lot of tracking links (didn’t have time to go deeply into that in the video) so I can see which tool or tactic traffic came through. That’s definitely helpful in watching for trends to focus on the right things. :)
mike says
Thanks – sorry I missed your reply originally, so thanks for replying via email, too!
Mike
Stacie Waters says
I’m not someone who comments regularly, but I have to thank you for this post Michelle. I was wondering why you are so popular in the blogging community, and now I can see – you’ve got what it takes, that’s the only secret to success.
Debra Seiling says
Thanks for this video that gives a quick overview of how you can promote over a wide range of different resources. I’ve had someone ask me to join LinkedIn, but my Christian blogs aren’t a business, so I’m uncertain whether it’s appropriate, beneficial, or too time consuming.
