If Google+ or Publishing a Book is on Your 2012 Goals List…

By Michelle Shaeffer | 18 Comments

I’ve recorded a quick video review of the first book I purchased to read on my new Kindle Fire (thank you, Santa AKA my husband and kids).

Click here to watch the video on YouTube if you can’t see it above: http://youtu.be/Hg-EYCNjVqA

Review of Google+ for Business: How Google’s Social Network Changes Everything by Chris Brogan

The most helpful parts of this book for me were:

  • Comparison of Google+ to what we’re already using
  • Step by step how to get started (profile, circles, etc) with screenshots and examples
  • Breakdowns of how different professionals are using Google+ and how it could be used for different industries
  • Ideas of what types of content to be sharing
  • How to use Hangouts and other features of Google+

Get your copy on Amazon and get info about the bonus How to Write & Publish a Book webinar at http://www.chrisbrogan.com/the-next-big-deal/ (also has a link to purchase the book)

And please don’t judge the book by my profile, because I haven’t started implementing the tips yet, but if you want to circle me on Google+, here I am: https://plus.google.com/u/0/102493271580185815483/posts

    Hi Michelle

Sorry I haven’t commented for some time.

Is that an Amazon Kindle that you are showing it on there? I may be getting one very soon.

Thanks for letting me know and if I do get a Kindle, I will definitely buy it.

    Hey Michelle,
I definitely have publishing my first physical book an my goal sheet for 2012.

I have a little bit of a learning curve to go through with Google + myself. I did see another blog post discussing the benefits of Google + so this definitely makes me scratch my chin and say hmmm….

I have a feeling that once I get the hang of Google+ I’ll be there more than Facebook and possibly more than Twitter. I’m looking forward to trying out some of the unique features (hangouts being a big one).

Last night I watched two of the three videos and learned a lot about publishing/writing a book. Helpful info. It’s one of my 2012 goals, too.

    Hi Michelle–

I just “circled” you. I have been playing with Google plus for about a month and really like it.

I actually have a book idea related to my academic work, but need to free up some time to write it. Maybe that is a 5-year goal!

    Happy new year!

      Thanks, Kristen. Great to connect!

Chris shared some helpful tips in video 2 about how to get the writing done, if you pick up the book, definitely check out that video.

Thank you for this wonderful book review, Michelle. It sounds like this book is just what I need to get started on Google+.
I especially like your video review. I write book reviews on my blog but have not had the courage to do a video review. This is a wonderful example of what a good video book review looks like.

Thanks Janette. I decided to try it without a script and this was take four. LOL Doing more video is on my goals list.

It’s a fantastic book. I just need to make time to start implementing parts of it. I’m excited about the different options we have there that we don’t have on the other networks.

Thanks, Elpidio. I’m still very new to using video but one of my goals for 2012 is to do more with it here on my blog and over on YouTube. :)

The way you broke it down inspires me to get the book but I don’t have a Kindle. I need to inform my Santa.

I will join you on Google+ because I’m already there.

    Thanks for the information.

Oh no! I just found this particular post and learned that I missed Chris’ special offer of free videos with book purchase. I’ll get the book anyhow.

Thanks for alerting us to this book because climbing another social media learning curve is daunting.

Thanks for the book review. I think I’ll pick up a copy and add it to the PILE of things I need to get through soon. As my goals for the year include getting my blog more active and adding an e-book, maybe this would inspire me. I haven’t tackled Google+ but its on the to do list. Thanks for motivating me to move it up the list a little.

Ah, yes, I have one of those piles too… and somehow it keeps growing! :)

It helps me to have a “plan” to follow, instead of feeling like I’m floundering around. Anything that saves me time (and helps me do things better) is a great book!
