Overcoming Secret Blogging Fears: It’s Too Expensive to Setup a Professional Blog

By Michelle Shaeffer | 5 Comments

Are secret fears holding you back from jumping head first into blogging? Don’t let them! Blogging is nothing to be afraid of and it can do amazing things for your online business.  This is part 6 in an 8 part series to help you bust through your blogging fears!

I Can’t Afford to Make My Blog Look Professional

There’s no need to start with a whizz-bang, fancy-shmancy custom blog design.  You don’t need to sink money into it to get setup.  Start simple and grow from there.

WordPress is free software and there are 1,000s of free themes. Many website hosts will install WordPress free for you, so your only initial expense is the hosting (under $10 a month) and domain name (around $15 a year).  If you’ve already got a website hosting account, just add WordPress and it probably won’t cost you anything extra.

Need a nice free theme to get you started?  Try one of these options:

  • Mayumi (5 color options)
  • Free Premium WooThemes (currently 13 to choose from)
  • WP Premium (10 color options)

One of the coolest things about WordPress is that it grows with you. You can easily upgrade later to a customized header, theme, and other shiny things.

I have always had a tough time selecting themes! Free or not, it is hard to make a choice!

Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal. ~ Henry Ford. When you are passionate about your goal, whether its blogging or something else, and your have confidence … excuses will be gone like the candle in the wind.

If someone is serious about blogging – he/she cannot help but be successful with all of your practical tips on how to set up, maintain, attract and engage followers. If someone is serious about blogging and is not fired by your rich content to take action … limiting beliefs and lack of confidence may be a problem.

I’m particular fond of the Flexibility3 free WordPress theme too. I’m actually using it on most of my websites right now. I really like this series of addressing all those imaginary fears that people have about blogging ~ very nice!

I’ve been blogging for 9 years and am amazed at how many people TALK about blogging and never, ever take the first step. Sad, because many of them have a lot to offer.
