We love numbers. We love the web.
Put them together and from the people at Omobono comes this fun video called “The World of Social Media in 2011 – All The Statistics, Facts and Figures” with social media stats updated for 2011.
There are 255 million websites online. 152 million of them are blogs. (And the most current stats say WordPress powers more than 50 million blogs.) Those stats got me thinking. Better know what I’m doing to build my sites and stand out online.
Which stats were most surprising or interesting to you? Anything that you’ve seen in your own marketing and online experience?

That’s alot of stats. Gosh, to think that we are all a part of the 3rd largest country in the world and it is all through social media. How great is that?
It’s awesome! I love how easy it is to connect with people from all over the world. :)
Wow…Facebook has overtaken Google? I am always telling my clients that they must use Facebook as a marketing tool….this is confirmation. People if you are running a business you must have a voice on Facebook!
Completely agreed. Facebook is a HUGE traffic generator for businesses/bloggers who get active and show up there.
For me Facebook is a monster. People love it and Facebook grows continually. If we want to have big traffic, we need to leverage the power of Facebook.
Yes, Facebook’s got seriously loyal fans. And those fans drive huge amounts of traffic.
Cool stats on that video!
I am just learning about the power of a ‘digg’. Didn’t quite realize how strong it was in the eyes of Google. I think I’m going to play around with that for a bit – see what happens :).
Facebook’s ‘like’ isn’t as strong as s ‘digg’ but, you are able to build niche-market followers relatively fast and drive traffic to a site quick quickly!
It’s worth exploring, for sure. I haven’t done much with Digg but I can see why it’d be smart to!
