Have you ever tried to share a new blog post on Facebook only to see the wrong image pop up… or it seems to be stuck with an older title or outdated information from your page?
You’ll want to bookmark this “secret weapon” and keep it handy:
The Facebook Developer’s URL Debugger!
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
This tool allows you to enter your URL and see what Facebook sees as the share information for your page. When you put in your URL it will go check for the current page information (which fixes the “wait…. that’s the OLD title/image/description… I updated it!” problem).
Once you see what Facebook sees you can make any necessary updates, and then run the debug again to update Facebook.
With this power you can be sure that your posts get shared on Facebook just the way you intended them to.
This PSA brought to you today from many moments of frustration in wondering why Facebook didn’t show the latest information for my blog posts, and how to get it to play nice. I’d like to save you from that.
What’s one challenge you’ve run into that you found a solution for?
