Get More Traffic by Adding “Tweetables” to Your Blog Posts

By Michelle Shaeffer | 9 Comments

You’ve seen the cool “tweetable” text call outs on blogs you read.  Have you wondered how to add them to your blog?

I used to create the code myself and add them to blog posts… but I’d rather not spend the time fighting code, and honestly I forgot to include them in every post when I was creating the code by hand…  which wasn’t smart because they generate a lot more tweets which leads to a lot more traffic!

So I went in search of an easier way to add nice looking “tweet this!” type call outs to my posts and I discovered a plugin called “Tweet Dis” which I’ve started using on my blog here (and with clients).

It’s as simple as writing the text you want to encourage your readers to tweet, highlighting it, and clicking a button to add a shortcode around it like this:

And it turns into this:

Discover the easy way to get more traffic by adding tweetables to your blog posts.

Click to tweet

You can customize the box with different layouts, fonts, and other options.

Here’s another example of this plugin in action on a recent blog post I published:

But the real question is… does it work?

You’ve likely seen me advocate tools like Triberr, Social Buzz Club, and similar.  It’s because when you’re still BUILDING an audience of readers for your blog, the quickest way to get traffic is to get others who have an audience already to share your content.

Regardless of how many followers you personally have on Twitter, if dozens of your readers share a tweet to your post, you can reach an entirely new audience of potential fans!

And yes, it works.  In the example post I shared above, using the “tweetable” quote led to significantly more tweets than the post would have gotten without it.  Here’s just a sample of them:

And the list goes on…

Not only is the additional traffic great, but this allows me to easily find and connect with my blog readers on Twitter!  So I can send them a thank you note and get to know them.  It’s a great way to get to know your community.

Get your copy of the “Tweet Dis” plugin here.

(Yes, that’s an affiliate link and if you purchase I’ll get a commission.  If you’d rather, you can click here to go straight to Tweet Dis without my affiliate link.  I’ve looked for a free version that’s customizable and didn’t find anything I loved, so premium plugin it is!)

What’s your best tip for getting traffic to your blog from Twitter?

WOW! Absolutely fantastic, Michelle. I actually blogged about the same topic only last week! Albeit, I use a different plug-in – Tweet This. But the result is the same.

Adding a tweet box is a great way to get more shares. I’ve been using it for a short while, now. I got the idea from Maria Forleo. I noticed she had a “Tweet This” on her blog posts and so googled how to do it.

And I’ve found that in addition to getting more shares, as people retweet my posts, my followers have increased exponentially!

I’ve seen the same results, Jae. Definite increase in sharing.

      And, Marie Forleo rocks. :)

Michelle, the affiliate link goes to Page Not Found. The non-affiliate link is fine. Just letting you know. (You don’t have to publish this)

Tweet this is a cool plugin and I have started using it on few of my Internet Marketing blogs. This plugin not only has some cool features but also has some cool templates, I just loved it.
