Free & Royalty Free Music Resources

By Michelle Shaeffer | 20 Comments

Need some rockin’ tunes for your video intro?  Soft, lovely music to add to the background of your coaching audios?

Here are some fabulous resources for free and royalty free music clips.

A couple of helpful notes for you about these sources (ha ha, notes, get it?):

* Free means the music is free to use, usually as long as you credit the musician.  Be sure to read the terms.

* Royalty free means that you purchase the music for a one-time fee instead of owing money each time the music is played (royalties).  Again, be sure to read the specific terms.

Incompetech (free): my favorite place to find music.  It’s Creative Commons licensed and well done.

Dan-O Songs (free): lots of mp3s in a variety of styles that you can use free with credit under Creative Commons license, or just $10 to use without credit.

ccMixter (free): another Creative Commons licensed search site, has an area specifically for music that’s okay to use commercially.

FreeMusicArchive (free): music shared here falls under a variety of licenses, so be sure to check the license for the track you like.

Jewel Beat (royalty free): 99 cents for music tracks.  Some Creative Commons licensed free downloads.

Partners in Rhyme (royalty free): sound effects, tracks and collections available.

SquarePeach (royalty free): unlimited use license.  Easy to preview clips because everything for each category is on one page.

Audio Jungle (royalty free): loops start as low as $1 a piece, awesome variety because this is a site where any musician can sign up to sell through.  Also features a monthly free file.

Neo Sounds (royalty free): wide selection, searchable by genre, mood, or instrument.

Footage Firm (royalty free and some free): offers sound effects as well as music loops.

Music Bakery (royalty free): from music giant BMI.  High quality and easy to navigate.

Audio Micro (royalty free): 200,000+ tracks and sound effects.  Free sound effects section.

P.S.  If you like the resources I’ve been sharing lately, like this music resource list or the free image sources list, you can get more resources plus a whole lot of other awesome info packed into the workshop I’m mentoring bloggers through that begins next week.  Get the details and see if it’s right for you: https://michelleshaeffer.com/rock-your-blog

    Wow Michelle,

I never knew there were free sites as well offering royalty free music. I did know about the pictures we could manage from such sources alone.

Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us :)

Royalty Free Music, it makes sense but I was not aware of it until now. I don’t have much more to add except, Michelle, you keep ROCKING with information. Thank you

    Great idea for resources, Michelle.
I only knew Incompetech, which is awesome (was that you who suggested it some time ago?). I am preparing some educational videos (for homeschooling purposes, actually), and music will make them much more interesting.

I feel kind of weird about something: I am afraid I overdid it with praising you lately and it sounded almost as sucking you up – didn’t mean it that way, really, but I do appreciate all the hard work you’re doing delivering us such wonderful treasures of resources and ideas, and I like your honesty and your style of writing – that’s all.

    Be well

Thanks for sharing this Michelle, but I don’t really bother with video marketing. I’m not really very photogenic and I don’t like the sound of my own voice.

This is a great post, Michelle. Royalty free music can be used for so much, including videos, but also for podcasts and presentations. I sell nearly all of my music via AudioJungle, but feel free to contact me if you’re looking for something specific, and I will compose and produce it just for you! Cheers, and good luck, all!
