The End of the World is Today… and Next Week… and…

By Michelle Shaeffer | 10 Comments

When you’re running your own business… building your blog… writing your book… launching something awesome… creating cool things…

Some days, it’ll feel like the **** has hit the fan. Technology will go crazy. Websites and computers will crash. The power will go out. Deadlines get missed. Nothing will go as planned.

In that brief moment, perspective gets wacky and it can feel like the end of the world or like  things are crashing down around you.

And some days, you won’t feel like doing the work that needs done to move your business forward. It’s tough. It takes time and energy. There’s always something to learn. Sometimes you don’t get the results you hoped for.

Here’s the one thing I know: You’ve got to keep pushing and keep doing the work anyway.

Take action in those moments when you want to pull the covers back over your head and hide. Focus and get things done.

I promise you, there will be days where things go wrong and you just want to crawl back into bed with a box of chocolates, a Mike’s lemonade, a romance novel or some mindless TV show.  Don’t do it (or if you must, don’t stay there for long).

Things will go wrong. But you’ll fix them and you’ll get through it.

I promise you, that the momentary challenges won’t be the end of the world. You can always get through it and recover. So don’t let them stop you. Don’t even let them slow you down. Laugh when you feel like crying and focus on putting one foot in front of the other.

Don’t compare other people’s public view to your behind the scenes.  More people are flying by the seat of their pants and a mess behind the scenes than you’d believe.  They’re still building awesome, successful business and you will, too.

Because it’s what you do in those challenging moments that adds up to create the momentum that propels you forward to success.

Your thoughts?  Ever been there?

I have been there a few times, but then there are those days once in a while when everything is perfect. Your start your day on a high and it carries all the way until the end of the day. However, next time I have one of those bummer days you were writing about, I will grab some chocolate and a couple of Mike’s
lemonade and keep on truckin. Thanks for that tip.
The one thing I have learned about keeping on doing what needs to be done, when having a not so
great day is that, once you complete the tasks at hand, a great feeling is sure to follow.
Life is one large classroom and we can learn from all the challenging moments.
Thanks – This was a good day for me to review my goals.

Totally agree, William. It always feels great to power through and get done what needs done. :)

That’s a great perspective to keep–life is a classroom with lots of lessons to learn from.

Oh yes Michelle! I think most of us have been there :)

There are times when one feels like nothing seems to be working, or that the world really might come to an end. And one just feels like giving it all up or closing up whatever you are doing. But those are the trying times as they call it, and they are the passing phases of life that each one of us encounters sometime or the other in our lives.

What matters most in such cases is to give yourself that much required PUSH to fight against all odds, get up, and fight back. There is absolutely no other way to turn your negatives to the positives.

Thanks for sharing and reminding us about it. :)

I think we all run into those challenges–if we can just push through them and not let them stop us. Thank goodness they’re only passing phases. :)

Your CommentLuv blog link title caught my attention, Harleena… off to check that out. I haven’t stepped on a train in years!

I’ve been there several times. The last time was when ustHost messed with my site every other day, and then shut it down. It was down for two weeks, before I managed to get another host and transfer it all there.

Oh no! That had to be stressful, Linda. Glad you got it safely transferred to another host.

Yes, Michelle, “Mama said there would be days like this.” What would life be without challenges? Challenges leads to innovations and new ideas. To get to that sign post – success – up ahead, one has got to go through some “stuff.” The challenge, no pun intended, is to remain focused and motivated. Unfortunately, some people don’t.

Thanks for the reminder and the inspiration to turn our challenges into learning experiences.

The pathway to success may be paved with roses, but they’ve got thorns! ;)

You’re right — it really does come down to that focus and motivation to keep going.

    Hi Michelle,

Talk about things going wrong! That’s when I know I’m making progress. Climbing a learning curve, tangling with technology and encountering folks who are clearly on another path all confirm that I’m growing. The road to success is definitely paved with mess.

I got a big chuckle out that image of crawling back in bed with chocolate and lemonade watching a mindless TV show. I’ve fought off that urge many times.

One thing that helps me get back on task and resume my momentum is to change locations. Because I work at home, I find that going to work on my computer in the library or a coffee shop occasionally gives me renewed energy and resolve. The shift in environment takes my attention away from those pesky distractions that working at home creates.

Ha ha – great phrase: “the road to success is definitely paved with mess.”

Thanks for sharing what works for you. Changing location is something I should try more often. It does help to get into different surroundings and find some new energy.
